Krugersdorp 15km night race
A midweek 15km night race which wasn’t so easy.
I know Krugersdorp has some hills, but did we really have to go up every hill in the President’s Hyper Krugersdorp 15km night race? Perhaps a little research into this race would have helped mentally prepare me for the onslaught of hills thrown at us from the first kilometre till round about 10-12kms in. The race was fairly spectacular on top of the hills (mountains) looking down over the slopes lit up by all the houses below. The race goes up and down through the suburbs of Berg en Dal for about 10-12kms until a really nice long downhill brings you back to the finish at the shopping center. Water points were good every 3 kms with water and coke. I liked the commentator at the end providing motivation and promoting races coming up soon.
Being at a shopping center parking wasn’t a problem, however I did see the car guards trying to get people to park outside the shopping center in a nearby park. I guess to help the civilians(non runners) get parking for shopping. You don’t need a torch unless you really scared about running in the dark (I saw a few people with headlamps). Street lights, when working and house lights are good enough to light the way while you running. The attendance at the race didn’t seem to be so big but being a midweek event this would be expected. I was able to enter at the start easily for only R50. We got a medal at the end of the race, see the picture below. I did it in 1h:21m.
