The Tough One 2013
This weekend I did ‘The Tough One’ a 32 km race in Johannesburg, and I’m still a little stiff right now. The name gave me chills and some scary dreams the night before. However I have to say I envisioned something worse than what I experienced. Don’t get me wrong there are loads of hills that defy logic because they never seem to end until right before the end of the race.
It felt great finishing this race; it was the first time I received two medals for completing one race. I managed to do the 94.7 cycle race the weekend before (PS cycling is easy) and therefore was eligible for the ‘tough one and 94.7’ medal.
I took it fairly easy in the beginning because I was worried about what was to come. This turned out to be a good idea because like everyone was saying the race only really started after the halfway mark. This is where hill after hill kept on coming to torture us. Water stops had coke and water, but some sweets or potatoes would have been good. I took no photos because I was pretty stuffed and its been my first big run for a while.
I’m getting back into this running passion slowly. I recommend this race its well organized and the last big race for the year. It has a massive field considering it is a 32 km. Make sure you do the 94.7 cycle race the week before this race. What could be better than one medal -> two medals!
