MTN 21km Marathon

My first race of the juneathon

It was cold, very very cold

I decided to do the 10km because I’m chicken and still working my way up to where I was a couple months back. This race was good apart from the cold, it was about 5 deg C at the start. I wonder how many people decided to give this race a skip because of the weather. By the way its day 7 of the juneathon, still going strong.

route

The route was not very hard but a little deceiving in the beginning with a long downhill section all seemed great. Until we headed back up to the finish. We started at the huge MTN innovation center and then weaved through the Fairlands area and ended off at the Mosaiek church just behind MTN.

organization

I thought the race was pretty well organised, we started a smidge late at 7:15 but the MC kept us excited and ready for the run. There were 3 water points which had water and coke. I only ended up grabbing a coke from one, because you don’t really need much for a 10km. At the end we got a medal and a chocolate (somehow I missed the chocolate) and at registration we got a bag, bottle and T-shirt which is pretty good. At the end there was also a marimba band entertaining the finishers which was a nice touch.

Parking was easy because of the large amount available at the MTN building.

about

The reason for MTN hosting the event was to promote the MTN 21 Days of Y’ello Care which has to do with the MTN staff doing 21 days of outreach. Nice work guys - details

results

I did about 56min which I was happy with. Endomondo said I did 5:36min/km which is way better than what I’ve been doing lately.
